JCPS’ Wilkerson Elementary opening delayed soon after unsuccessful inspection

A new elementary faculty in southwest Jefferson County will not open up on the initial day of college subsequent 7 days just after failing its creating inspections, district officers explained Wednesday.

Inspectors established Wilkerson Elementary’s development was “incomplete and not significantly enough along to allow occupancy,” according to a JCPS press launch. “The greatest concern is the roof is not concluded.”

Officers are hopeful the concerns with the $17 million making will be remedied in a handful of weeks. About 550 learners were anticipated at Wilkerson on the initial day of classes, Aug. 10.

Superintendent Marty Pollio, who has pushed to create and open extra new universities for the duration of his tenure, called the revelation “extremely disappointing.” 

Marrillia Layout and Development, the general contractor on the new faculty, experienced confident JCPS the developing would be completely ready to open on the very first working day of school, Pollio stated.
